Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a dare for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate the horror genre: Settle in with your partner and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like standard body horror, but beneath Together lies a intense examination about the ways we decide to love each other.

A Directorial Debut Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together is the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for ten years. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the actors bring a particular energy to their roles, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The plot begins when the couple relocate from the urban environment to the countryside for her career. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the tropes end. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their country house, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim tumble into an underground cave. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The whole movie is a methodically building horror experience, weaving in moments of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) body horror, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes during something grotesque). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and delivers them in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He dreads the notion of completely losing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is intensified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in Together refrains from painting either of his characters the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie face the sort of issues that arise in any relationship after ten years. At their core, they still love each other. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and open up at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the metaphor never feels overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights work together symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could function as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
