Several professionals stated the popularity for the experimental drug could be connected to the increasing price of approved weight loss products such as Mounjaro.

Several influencers attempt to sidestep the regulations by calling to the drug as a “research chemical” or citing it as “not for human consumption”. The substance is not a controlled drug, but promotion and distribution can still violate medicines, advertising, and consumer regulations, risking fines, legal action or imprisonment.

Service Reaction and Material Elimination

According to the social media company, the service has taken down problematic content and prohibited related hashtags and query recommendations. The organization said it was committed to keeping the platform secure and allocating resources in strengthening compliance measures.

Digital Trading Activities

Investigations also found groups with up to 9,000 members marketing retatrutide using Telegram's integrated search feature, which functions like a online catalog. Typing “retatrutide” immediately brings up groups with thousands of users, filled with images of weight loss, positive reviews and detailed guides for mixing or administering at residence.

A spokesperson for the messaging service said it regularly monitored dangerous content on its service including material that encouraged the “misuse of controlled medications”. The organization added that it removed “millions of pieces of harmful content each day”.
